Our client is presently seeking an Assistant Highways Engineer to assist the Local Schemes Engineering Manager within the Transport Development Group. The successful candidate will be expected to prepare developed scheme briefs providing an estimate of design and construction costs and delivery programme in accordance with the client's initial brief. Undertake feasibility studies and prepare reports for the client and prepare detailed designs for highway and casualty reduction schemes to current design standards and codes of practice.Consult with all relevant parties on scheme proposals including dealing with issues raised by road safety audit. Evaluate design and construction risks, prepare risk assessments and pre construction health & safety plans. Monitor design costs and delivery programme and report any variations to line manager. Agree setting out with contractor, supervise works on site and prepare scheme handover package including health & safety file. Applications are invited from candidates with experience of the design and implementation of traffic or safety engineering schemes, including signs and lining design, TRO's and traffic calming. This experience should include the development and project management of schemes from inception to delivery, including, ideally, coordination and supervision of works in both an urban and rural environment. Applicants with the RoSPA Road Safety Engineering qualification or equivalent will be at an advantage particularly when combined with experience of carrying out safety audits of benefit. This position is offered on a freelance basis, has an imminent start, an anticipated duration in excess of 6 months and attracts a competitive rate of remuneration.
