Our client are currently seeking a Highways Engineer to act as a Technical Auditor within a Transport Development Group which deals with a variety of Highway and Infrastructure schemes within South West England. The successful candidate will be expected to prepare technical audit reports which constructively appraise highway scheme proposals and provide guidance to designers, developers and their agents to meet with national and local highway standards. Present technical detailed advice and / or present prepared reports at meetings with relevant parties and through negotiation develop designs which meet highways agency standards. Have a full working knowledge of the technical documentation applicable to highways design and construction enabling technical design advice and guidance to be provided at all stages from feasibility to detailed design. Able to work independently with minimal supervision prioritising workload and consulting with all relevant parties on scheme proposals including dealing with issues raised through both the technical and safety audit processes. Applications are invited from candidates with significant experience of the design and implementation of a wide range of highway engineering schemes, including major highway and private developer projects (such as, distributor and collector roads, roundabouts, signalised junctions, park & ride sites, housing estates etc.) and major infrastructure for major retail, commercial and residential development through to footways, cycle ways and safety schemes. Applicants should have the ability to 'stand back' from the design proposals and objectively audit the design with a view to making recommendations for altered and improved layout or other amendment in line with relevant policies and standards. This position is offered on a freelance basis, has an imminent start, an anticipated duration in excess of 6 months and attracts a competitive rate of remuneration.
